A great start to what should be another amazing season.
The end of the “Mugen Train Arc” is here and we finally get to witness the beginning of a very important arc in the “Demon Slayer” series. Especially, Hashira “Tengen Uzui(宇髄天元).” Who will be highlighted throughout the arc.
Interesting First Scenes to Note
The beginning of the episode recaps and shows us some new scenes of the Katsugai crows relaying the aftermath of the battle of Akaza vs Kyojuro. It’s pretty sad seeing Senjuro (煉獄千寿郎), Kyojuro’s young brother, receive this message. When the crows reach Kagaya Ubuyashiki (産屋敷耀哉), he interestingly highlights what Tanjiro had to say, rather than be sad about the death, he smiles about Tanjiro instead. While being in the graveyard of many dead Demon Slayer corps, Kagaya understands the bigger picture. In a way, he can be seen just as ruthless as Muzan. As the leader of battling super powered demons, there is a bit of foreshadowing here that eludes to the bigger picture fight against Muzan.
The Terror that is “Muzan Kibutsuji”
After season 1 left us with a ‘female’ Muzan. This season starts with a childlike version of Muzan, which doesn’t matter because any form he takes, the show portrays just how vicious and terrifying he is. We just saw Akaza kill Kyojuro and here ‘kid’ Muzan is putting him in his place like HE was the child. It gave me chills and the animation is just FREAKING AMAZING!
Intro to “Sun Breathing”
We finally start getting answers behind the “Hinokami Kagura.” Sun breathing is the first breathing technique that everything else is branched off of. Hinokami Kagura is a move based on sun breathing. We even get a silhouette of the character that possibly started it. There is a lot of mystery here that got tied to the scenes with Senjuro and his father. We can bank of this being slowly explored throughout the season.
Anime Only Scene
We got to see a little action in the episode, whereas the arc in the manga takes a while. With a new cast of villains and heroes, we may get to see many scenes and character development we didn’t get to see in the manga. Seeing a combo attack between Tanjiro and Nezuko was refreshing. Here is to hoping we get more scenes like this to round out each episode.
Tengen Uzui, the ‘Sound’ Hashira and the Future of this Arc
A shinobi that likes to be “flashy” or “flamboyant.” It’s going to be interesting to see how the 4 (Inosuke, Zenitsu and Tanjiro)… or 5 with Nezuko interacts between each other. There should be plenty of quotables and fun interactions between all of them. I also wonder how they are going to weave-in character development throughout arc. I mean, they did build Kyojuro up in literally one movie and he became an instant fan-favorite. Let’s hope Tengen Uzui and this season can live up to the hype!
