What Stands Out the Most?

With Miyo, Hazuki, and Yurie now staying at Prince Takaihito’s palace, the empire is on high alert for Naoshi and the Gifted Communion’s inevitable attempt to steal Miyo’s power and kidnap the prince

The Most Letdown of an Episode that Sets Up for Bigger Expectations

Like the last episode, this one seemed to set up something major, only to slow things down instead. Miyo with her closest friends and family are staying at the Imperial Palace with Prince Takaihito. With defensive forces at their absolute peak, we are primed to expect a major fiasco to go down. However, this episode leaned into more foreshadowing and slice of life. Although those aren’t necessarily “boring” things, it certainly is another step back from the first 6 episodes that provided more of an overall balance.

Continued Miyo and Kiyoka Romantic Growth

To get this out of the way first, each episode has been doing an incredible job at building every little bit possible out Miyo and Kiyoka’s relationship. Instead of Miyo running away like in episode one of this season, she’s actually sleeping next to Kiyoka this episode. As someone that doesn’t frequent shojos, I couldn’t help but think that the female audience would love these moments a lot more than I would.

Side-Character Action

For another slice of life moment, there is that “girls’ night” party between all the ladies with Kaoruko, Yurie, Hazuki, Miyo and “Princess Takako.” I tend to have a soft side to certain side characters that have interesting backgrounds and personalities. Kaoruko and Hazuki have such interesting backgrounds that the story can easily pluck moments out of to make some compelling points and this scene was just that.

To have this air of relief of Kaoruko liking someone other than Kiyoka, makes us as the audience view her in a more positive light. It relieves us more of that idea that she was just there to stay close to Kiyoka. To make it even more interesting, her future potential love interest is Kiyoka’s bestie, Yoshito. That DEFINITELY makes dynamics more interesting.

With Hazuki, she will forever play that older sister role and basically fall into that “cougar” category. She might be one of the most wholesome feel-good characters in this entire show. Having her character deliver wisdom and be the glue that keeps all the family and friends together is such a weapon for episodes like these that don’t really move the plot forward very much.
