Video Review
What Stands Out About This Episode?
It is that time! Everyone’s split into smaller teams to take on each Sin Archbishop and save Priestella—without giving in to their demands. Their demands include: ownership of a Tome of Wisdom, an artificial spirit (Beatrice), the witch’s remains that is powering Priestella and NTR’ing Emilia! This is an action heavy episode that certainly DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!
Bang, Bang, BANG!
I think it’s safe to say that cour 1 of season 3 of Re:Zero was the appetizer with a few worthy highlights, before the start of this epic PAYOFF! And oh boy.. did episode 9 pay us off right off the bat with a thirst trap. There’s nothing like starting off an episode with just straight up BLATANT FANSERVICE! We are at the point where anime fans feel mixed about fanservice, but it honestly helped set the tone for this episode because IT WAS SPICY!

I’m going to take my time building these Re:Zero reviews up as I haven’t written a single thing about it for 3 seasons! I think this episode really had one big takeaway anyways. So, check out my Season 3 reviews below on my YouTube Channel!
Letting Characters Shine
Re:Zero Season 3 Episode 9 is the kind of fantasy we dream up of in an anime story. A stacked roster of characters that all provide an intriguing dynamic to the story. This episode, starts the payoff between a majority of the characters that were actually able to make it this far unlike (Beatrice, Mimi, Crusch, etc.) While these characters are in temporary timeout and may see screen time again pretty soon, it’s just incredible to see a large roster of characters make a memorable mark in an exciting action packed episode—where many characters get to show their best qualities.
When it comes to action packed fight scenes, it comes to the nuances like the matchups and the mysteries that slowly reveal what makes that fight compelling. Wilhelm has to fight his dead wife and Garfiel is fighting to avenge Mimi. From that perspective, there’s revenge, honor and that personal connection to the character’s motivations in their fight. What this episode did was pleasantly provide those mysteries and introduce some curveballs like that damn gloop that overtook Garfiel.

In the first 8 episodes, Priscilla has teased us in more ways than one and has shown many sides to her character that many fell in love with. So, what is the most fun and exciting side to her character? Being a total masochist wielding a big ass sword, along with a side helpings of fanservice. So, Sin Archbishop Wrath, Sirius, who is a whole lot of crazy is going to be quite the explosive battle, along with the help of Liliana, to see who will fully get to fully embrace who will enjoy each other’s pain more?
Re:Zero can be such a painful watch in the sense of its dark and tense themes.. It’s none other that Reinhard von Astrea that is like this perfect contrast that is so polar opposite to “struggling,” that it provides quite the comedic irony. Reinhard is clearly the OP character in the show and throughout the story, it lets us know on multiple occasions. Because of the nature of his character, where powers seem like it’s pulled out of a God’s rear, he’s like this ultimate chess piece in the story to provide whatever solution a story can be missing. In this episode, he provides “hero relief” for just absolutely manhandling a powerful villain and just ironically be funny.

Although, this episode was predictable in how we would feel in a fight between good guys versus bad guys, villains gaining the upper hand from an unexpected place is just the right misdirection to introduce when all the characters are fighting various Sin Archbishops at once. So, Lust revealing herself at the end to be in Crusch’s room with Felis was the ultimate twist for an otherwise explosive episode!
