What Stands Out the Most?

A Worthy Setup

These first 3 episodes provided incremental payoffs to build each character up to be at their absolute peak, before a major event takes place that may become “revolution” worthy. Revolution isn’t a word that should be thrown around loosely. A revolution is a takeover of the empire, meaning the very way status quo is at stake. In this instance, it is Usuba related with the main villain, Naoshi Usui of a branching family of the Usubas, being introduced as the man leading this “Gifted Communion” cult.

One of the biggest arcs to look forward to is Miyo’s. Surprise, surprise, it’s the MC we are excited about. However, the way the story is woven together to present the hurdles that she must overcome has been quite impressive and exciting to watch. This isn’t something I would have said in the first three episodes of season 1, with a completely different vibe of mystery, excitement and surprisingly, action!

These first three episodes accomplished and set us up for various important story elements, but what I want to address the most is Miyo’s character. We have a character that went from down in the dumps traumatized daughter, that doesn’t feel or accept that she is actually of anything or worth—to essentially, becoming the most ‘WORTHFUL’ thing in this world symbolized with her Dream-Sight ability.

Kiyoka’s mother, kindly referred to as “DEMON MOTHER TERESA” in my YouTube videos, is the perfect representation to have Miyo advance into the next phase of her personality. From one that is timid, easily accepts Fuyu’s intimidation and constantly apologizes, this absolutely pisses off the future mother-in-law that was ready to smite Miyo back into the Saimori oblivion. What this episode accomplished was taking the ‘flaw’ that is Miyo’s lack of self-confidence and ability to stand up for herself, and turn that into someone that is willing to do just that.

With the excitement of the plot, the most rewarding and satisfying part of this three episode stretch is Fuyu’s acceptance of Miyo. Miyo accomplishes using her Dream-Sight skill without anything going wrong, but we all know her ability comes with dangers. Her lack of full control over it is the main obstacle she faces. This is used in combination with Miyo’s arc of building herself into this “courageous character,” that overcomes what she needs to to be the “head woman” of the Kudou family. Clearly, that ties directly with the cliffhanger of the episode with Naoshi Usui’s first appearance and how that will ultimately force Miyo into a tough situation.
