What Stands Out About This Episode?

Forget a Kiss, it’s All About the JEWELS!
While the cool kids will talk about how cute the little kiss scene was, the old man in me is completely impressed by how Dan Da Dan addresses the plot—that is “MISSING BALLS!” It’s quite the hoot, as everything in this story revolves around a young man’s missing articles of baby making. Dan Da Dan is a story that will struggle to find good tension, if it’s not directly coming from relationship plot elements. That is where manifesting antagonists like “Alien Diddies” and horny “Turbo Grannies” becomes part of the Dan Da Dan charm; including building these ridiculously fun scenarios like Turbo Granny losing Ken’s balls.. So, bringing back Turbo Granny not only brings back a fun antagonist, but it brings the cute and fluffy archetype that is so prevalent among today’s animes. You got to have a cute, fluffy creature to collect as merch, right? It even sets up her character to be a permanent mainstay that may become more of an ally down the line.
Every anime has their formula for success and trends start to take place in how episodes are created. This is yet, another episode where the first half of the episode focuses heavily between the two main character’s continued bond of blush red accidental moments of romantic fate. While cute, endearing and absolutely hysterical at times, it can only last so long before the relationship payoffs burns its novel bridge. Shortly after this “iconic kiss” payoff, it makes sense to bring in a NEW CHALLENGER!
A New Challenger!
With an unforgettable climatic “kiss” burned early in the story, it only makes sense we find progress elsewhere to continue to build and test this “Okarun” and Momo bond. Now, introducing a man’s worse nightmare, the female finessing deceiver of men—a cute, attractive, and dangerously manipulative girl that will drain you of all your hard earnings, while leaving your testosterone confused and unused. This “pink-haired” girl is set up to be a potential antagonist in one way or the other; and one that will serve as a competing romantic interest in young Okarun. The setup for this new character can go in many different directions. Spoilers aside, it’s one that sets up at the very least, an interesting romantic triangle.
