What Stands Out About This Episode?

A Payoff that EXEMPLIFIES DAN DA DAN

Dan Da Dan has found the perfect balance between fun dialogue, action and tension. When it comes to manga as your main source material, it would seem like a cheat code to adapt it into an animation. However, the feel and delivery is everything. Being that this anime is a “comedy,” delivery is baked into highlighting the punchline. That “punchline?” Take a deep breath. Pray for the milliseconds you have before jumping into the ultimate sacrifice for your friend that’s a girl. That is.. TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM by jumping onto Turbo Grandma’s oppais and giving the biggest bite and motorboat you can give a granny from beyond the grave! Who knows what kind of nasty crabby patties this dead horny grandma is infected with? When you feel emasculated by the girl you like and powerless by an all-powerful, horny Turbo Granny, desperate times calls for desperate measures. Salute to the Co-MC, Ken Takakura, and the creators for delivering the funniest moment of the entire series.

Ken Takakura’s character “risking it all” to save Momo with a major chomp to the teats is the most satisfying payoff from a gag that was setup in episode 1 with Turbo Granny’s introduction. That moment really exemplifies what Dan Da Dan has been so good at in the construction of the episodes.

Superb Storyboarding and Animation

To put it simply, the storyboarding and animation was fantastic. When a show and story isn’t that deep, it just puts more emphasis on everything else. Why do we watch Dan Da Dan? There is this building, romantic, misfit of a relationship blossoming before our eyes. There’s a bunch of zany and off-the-wall antagonists who end up being alien diddies or horny grandmas from way beyond menopause. Between the powers that Momo has and what Ken had at least temporarily, there is a stew of chaos that consists of action packed lightheartedness—and one where an alien will whip out what looks to be a “metal phallic symbol” spawning out of an alien’s pants that bypasses any censorship. It’s easy-to-consume chaos and, quite simply, funny.
