More of Aqua’s past as Gorou Amamiya gets explored and this is where, DARK RUBY is BORN!
Video Review
What Stands Out?
Reintroducing EXCITEMENT!
Where you spend almost 2 seasons following one character trying to exact revenge and all of the sudden, it’s taken awayāwhere will the story go from here? As early as season 2, episode 5, there were already hints of an odd dark foreshadowing of Ruby’s character. That episode double and tripled down to show that there is something up with Ruby, given the reaction from the big bosoms of Minami.

With Aqua’s biggest questions about his character getting some closure, this episode reaffirmed Gorou and Sarina’s relationship. As a dying child, with no loving family members to watch her passing, it was Gorou that gave Sarina some semblance of happiness in her last days. It is because of that and how much the story built up this hope for Ruby, that set us up for a HUGE REVELATION! Ruby and Akane finding Gorou’s dead body, marks the end for one of the biggest mysteries of Aqua’s character, but opens up a new can of REVENGE for Ruby!
What’s Next for Aqua?
As Aqua’s motives as a character to be a “murderer-in-the-making” temporarily comes to a close, the previous episode left the door open for Aqua wanting to find out about the true context of Ai’s death and how his father is actually alive. While one door closes temporarily for Aqua, the story gets to explore this new dark side of Ruby that wants to exact her own revenge on whoever killed her sensei!

A Well Executed CONCEPT!
This is one of the most interesting scenarios for a story. I love the concept of the story in a sense, “swapping main characters.” And the fact that the characters are twins, makes it that much more exciting. One of the pitfalls from a story doing this could be that this just ends up being a needless detour within the story. However, the fact that Ruby’s motivations will end up being similar to Aqua’s, makes it relatively a safe switch, as we are here already for DARKNESS and REVENGE!
