What Stands Out About This Episode?

Action Sequences were TOP-TIER
This is one of those episodes that deserves high praise for its ability to string together amazing animated fight choreography. When you read something like a Demon Slayer and then see Ufotable’s next level beauty of its animations, we have a similar dynamic between Dan Da Dan and Science Saru.

This episode used a series of different kinds of angles and slow-mos to really make the fight much more dramatic and rewarding. It gives characters time to pose and dish out all types of aura that a fast paced battle may not have. What may have stood out the most to manga readers is the added scene with Taro in the “third-person over-the-shoulder” angle. It gave the battlefield a different kind of experience from the viewer’s perspective that made the fight between Seiko & Evil Eye look even more incredible than it already was.

The Romantic Payoff
After the introduction of Jiji in season 1 and ending the season in the middle of the arc, there was quite some time before we can truly experience a happy end for Okarun and Momo. Jiji came onto the scene for the sole purpose to provide a love triangle threat to Okarun. Naturally, fans may hate Jiji based on that alone, but he was created for the sole purpose of annoying us as well. There is quite the long list of cringe-worthy actions he’s taken. However, that all changed mostly for the better in episode 2, when he merged with Evil Eye.
At the same time, Okarun’s jealousy—in the same way Momo is jealous of Aira, becomes a part of his character arc to overcome his insecurities. Not only was Jiji Momo’s ex-lover, she happily gets buttered up by him right in front of Okarun. However, some girls can be very oblivious to a guy’s intentions and it becomes a point of contention for Okarun to rise above those jealous insecurities. Momo’s intentions this entire time was to try to get Okarun and Jiji to get along, so they can be friends and it worked.

Between the last episode’s romantic foreshadowing, this episode caps off that entire progress. Ultimately, it showed how much Momo couldn’t hide her feelings for Okarun with tears of relief and joy that was a nice anime-only added touch to make the ending of this episode that much more rewarding for Okarun—the shonen who found himself face-to-pillows.
