What Stands Out About This Episode?
Subaru has found out about the origins of Regulus’s authority and sent off Emilia to go tend to his wives to unlock that secret. While Subaru buys time, Emilia finds where Regulus’s heart is located.
Bad Guy Gets a MASSIVE POUNDING!
Regulus might be one of the most serious, yet not serious villains I have ever encountered. I am quite convinced that the purpose of his character is to make as many “memeable” faces as possible. This is a long awaited episode for a villain that I think collectively as a fandom that we can all hold our hands together, while rising up with our Reinhards to revel like his wives in the DEATH of one of the series most despicable villains. The list of things this dude did includes: NTR’ing us, taking out a part of our MC’s leg, gave Emilia a trauma of a lifetime by helping turn Petalgeuse into Sloth, leading to Fortuna’s death, he’s half the reason why our dear Rem is a potato and has the most punchable face. I’m fairly certain his different shades of troll faces are designed to make us feel that way, which means this episode is where we finally get our payoff.

I had a couple criticisms for my YouTube Review, but for this blog, I just want to mention what made the episode the most enjoyable. Re:Zero has this uncanny way of being serious and dark, while contrasting it with some level of ironic humor. Emilia being the airhead she is, has this purity about her character that gives her this hilarious lack of awareness that someone like Priscilla would have. I couldn’t help but bust out laughing every time she has an “Emilia moment.” The highlight moment for her has to be the voice actor acting yelling out before stomping on Regulus’s face.

Emilia is one of those innocent characters that falls in line with being a “goody-two-shoes” kind of character. Those kinds of characters typically make me barf, but at the same time, the Re:Zero story utilizes her appropriately this arc. It might be the first fight where Emilia truly is angry, but comes off like a cute fluffy stuffed animal that’s hard to take seriously, which creates hilarious moments like “going for the nuts” like the previous episode. In this episode, it was “53 shades of ass-whooping.” 53 is of course, for the amount of wives that Regulus has been taking advantage of.

Overall, this episode was a fun mix of dark tragedy, turned super satisfying ass beating of the villain. Although I don’t think this episode lived up to my personal expectation, it still delivered some of the most memorable moments of the entire story.
