Subaru, Emilia and Reinhard try to find a way to Regulus’s weakness and Priscilla goes.. MOUTH-to-MOUTH!
Video Review
What Stands Out About This Episode?
Everyone has met their match against each individual Sin Archbishop. This episode focuses mainly on how Subaru, Emilia and Reinhard will find a way to defeat the seemingly indestructible Regulus. One of the episode’s biggest intrigues is learning about the history of Priscilla’s dark past that led her to her sadist personality.
Princess Priscilla, the Deliverer of PAIN!
Yes. We are doing it. This supplemental review of this episode is going to be Priscilla focused. Since season 1, I have always maintained a pecking order of who I thought was really monarch material and it may surprise you, but Emilia is last. She’s way too dense and pure-hearted to make difficult decisions as a leader. Being a leader involves disappointing people no matter what and having the self-awareness of every situation possible. Then, who would be number 1? It’s the sadist, Princess Priscilla. A person that understands pain and can easily deliver it with AUTHORITY!

Can ONLY Be One Future Queen
Priscilla has had a more interesting start of this arc, compared to the other candidates to become the leader of Lugenica. The Valkyrie Crusch, keeps taking a step back from losing her memories and being embarrassingly incapacitated by Sin Archbishop Lust, Capella. Emilia has more or less been the same character, but with the growing confidence of her supporters and the mental hurdles she had to get through in season 2. Anastasia is another interesting character that I see more as a “cabinet member,” rather than a future queen.
At the beginning of this arc before Subaru decided to kick the bucket multiple times, Priscilla showed her biggest flaw of instigating internal strife within the Astrea family between Reinhard’s father, Reinhard, and Wilhelm. That would immediately make you think that’s very unfitting of a potential candidate queen, right? Right.. However, a new side to her character changes how we would view her tremendously in a new light.

From dancing with Liliana, we were able to see her become elegant, feminine, while maintaining dignity. Oh jeez.. She danced. Whoopee doo! Yaz… Let me get to the point! It’s a new side of her character that shows that she can tame her more “sadistic” side of her personality. This is important because that part even surprised Subaru and Emilia, which naturally sets us up for her to become a prominent character of this arc.
Throughout the arc, Priscilla has traveled with Liliana literally saving citizens with Sirius’s “wrath influence” that makes all the NPCs rage because of it. Notice that Priscilla basically has to continuously convince Liliana to do her bidding—which, ironically, is the right thing to do. Priscilla has the foresight to see Liliana’s calming musical capabilities, sways her to work with her when she’s totally freaked out, and protect everyone in Priestella. This is a character that cares for the people, knows how to work with all kinds of people, including saving Subaru’s butt and is actually a great problem solver. It’s that perceptive quality, along with a new caring side of her personality that meshes perfectly with a person that tends to nonchalantly DELIVER PAIN!
About the Actual Episode..
One of the most relatable aspects of a character is their backstory and this episode has certainly teased it with Sirius. Any connection between Sirius and Priscilla, in any way, shape, or form, brings out a new and compelling side to her character. This makes for the perfect setup for the perfect fight between characters that have similar “chaotic” qualities. Is it possible to be born a masochist or a sadist? I’m no psychologist, but it would make even more sense that a person like Priscilla becomes one, resulting from an utterly messed up past.

The story has yet to explore Priscilla’s backstory and how she became a candidate to be the leader of all of Lugunica. With Sirius mentioning specific names to Priscilla like “Iris and the Thorn King, Teleos’s Rose Knight and Magritzer’s Gibbet,” that sparked REAL ANGER from Priscilla that we’ve never seen before. Within those names, probably holds a dark and disturbing past filled with pain and I’m all here for it!
While we can debate over Princess Priscilla being the most fit to become queen, what isn’t a debate is that she is the MOST INTERESTING CHARACTER in season 3!
