What Stands Out About This Episode?
Unveiling the Truth Beyond the “Fake Sky”
Wistoria has spent a majority of the first season developing all the most crucial characters that will be important to the journey of the MC, “Will Serfort.” Now, with Will Colette, Sion, Julius, Lihanna and Wignall, they share one goal in mind and that is to advance through the tower, as we see how they will face and overcome future challenges with the climax of them defeating the Evil Grand Duke.

The story has suddenly, along with the first major plotline, introduced a ton of lore and insightful backstories in just a little over one episode. What I loved most about this episode of Wistoria was the advancement of excitement. This includes the introduction of Finn, who seems almost like a Headmaster Caldron equivalent—except he’s a leader of the swords, while Caldron leads the wands. Finn’s introduction creates a lot of potential excitement for what it could mean for the story, especially considering Will’s new ability to absorb magic into his sword, the history of the Finn Tribe, and how it all fits into the grand scheme of things. There are also those mysterious frames of what seems to be a “gravely injured Elfie” and hints of how Will became an orphan.
Overall, Finn’s introduction is just one piece of the puzzle. With villains like Marze and his headless partner, there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding what’s really beyond this “fake sky” and why they want to open that pathway to an apparent destruction back up. When something new and cool gets introduced that sparks even more intriguing questions? That, to me, is a sign of excellent writing.
“Oh look! There’s the Light Magia Vander! “

There’s nothing interesting here.. YET!

A Slight Disappointment
There’s nothing sadder than wasting some incredible animation on a feel-good montage. It’s just another tease for an epic “Goku vs. Vegeta”-like epic battle between Will and Sion that never fully gets realized. One thing Wistoria excels at is the incredible animation in its fight scenes. Episode 8, with the battle between Will and Julius, was amazing—and you could say the same for episode 11. So, in this episode, it’s disappointing to see such beautiful animation used for a throwaway moment with no real stakes or payoff.
