What Stands Out About This Episode?

REAL Teamwork!

We all like to think that doing things by yourself is what is best, but the fact that the story is called, “Wand & Sword,” naturally calls upon teamwork. I guess a life-or-death situation matters too.. For the first time, Will LEADS his ex-bullies into fighting against a monster in the dungeon, where he is the most experienced. Everyone gets a chance to shine and show whatever is the most reflective of their standout abilities and characteristics.

MC Rizzler Will’s Character Development

Not only did this episode show tons of flashy animation and swings of emotion, it coincided with Will, making leaps and bounds as a character. There is no other worse and throbbing pain, than losing a parting gift from your significant other (before they dump you). Jkjk.

At face value, Elfaria’s goggles given to Will before she went into the tower to become a Magia Vander—might seem like just a gift for Will to hold onto until they meet up once again. But it’s not the only reason that Will treasures it so dearly. Elfie’s goggles helps give Will the confidence and symbolizes that journey to one day meet her at the top of the tower, where they dreamed about seeing a “real sky.” Having the goggles break, utilizing Sion as a means to help Will snap out of being distraught as well—was almost like “killing two bird with one stone.” Will will eventually recognize that he doesn’t need the goggles in the end and we get to see Sion do more as a character, other than just be a bully.. Or was he still one?

A New Ability + Backstory

This episode did an amazing job building up for the climatic moment of the episode, as it coincided with Will’s new ability and a glimpse into Will and Elfaria’s backstory. While it didn’t reveal anything we can confidently confirm that is new, it allowed us to confirm that at the very least, something epically “prophecy-like” is involved with Will and Elfaria’s origins—as it is no accident that they were left to be orphans.

Speculation aside, the moment itself when Will uses his “Wis” ability to absorb Sion’s magic, it was quite the chilling moment as goosebumps took over for how incredibly impactful this moment was for the story. After Sion had his epic reappearance, with everyone seemingly at their wits end, followed by a series of SIGNIFICANT revelations, this episode concludes with Will’s sword. These sequences back-to-back were chef’s kiss for the Wistoria anime.
